Staying Open-Minded About Your Healthcare

When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I didn't know what I was going to do. After the devastation subsided, I decided to take a very standard, western approach to my healing. Although initial efforts were successful, my cancer recurred a few months later. I endured many additional months of treatment before I started focusing on myself. I decided it was time to incorporate complimentary alternative treatments into my healing regimen, including massage therapy. I can't even begin to tell you how much it changed my life. My healing became a process, instead of something I simply had to endure. I hope that the articles on my website can inspire you to stay open-minded about your own healthcare.

Protect Your Eyes: Eye Care For Daily Computer Work

Health & Medical Blog

If you spend a lot of time in front of the computer, you need to worry about your vision. You might not know it, but staring at a computer screen all day can damage your eyes. There are some things you can do to protect your eyes from computer-related vision damage. Read the list below. Here are some steps you can add to your routine to protect your vision.

Get Annual Eye Exams

When you do computer work all day, you need to track your vision. One way to do that is with annual vision exams. If you don't wear glasses, you might think your vision is fine. That might not be the case though. Vision changes can happen slowly. That means you might not know you have vision problems until it's too late. That's especially true if you don't go in for annual vision exams. Vision exams help track the changes you don't notice.

Give Your Eyes Some Rest

If you sit in front of a computer every day, you need to give your eyes some rest. One way to do that is to get up from your desk for a few minutes each hour. That way, your eyes can get a break from the strain. If you can't leave your desk, try looking away from the screen a couple of times each hour. Change your focus to something in the distance. Leave your focus there for several seconds. Try doing that every time you start feeling the strain in your eyes.

Cover the Computer Screen

If your eyes feel the strain from staring at a computer screen all day, it's time for some screen protection. Computer screens generate a blue light that can damage your eyes. Place a protective cover over the computer screen. The protective cover will shield your eyes from damage. Make sure the cover you choose has blue light protection. Otherwise, you'll only magnify the blue light.

Increase Your Vitamin Intake

If you're not taking daily vitamins for your eyes, it's time for a change. There are certain vitamins your eyes need for good vision. Daily vitamin supplements can protect your eyes from vision damage. Some vitamins can also help prevent age-related vision changes. Lutein and zeaxanthin can protect your eyes against age-related vision problems. Two of those problems are cataracts and macular degeneration. If you don't eat enough green leafy vegetables, start taking a daily vitamin supplement.
