Staying Open-Minded About Your Healthcare

When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I didn't know what I was going to do. After the devastation subsided, I decided to take a very standard, western approach to my healing. Although initial efforts were successful, my cancer recurred a few months later. I endured many additional months of treatment before I started focusing on myself. I decided it was time to incorporate complimentary alternative treatments into my healing regimen, including massage therapy. I can't even begin to tell you how much it changed my life. My healing became a process, instead of something I simply had to endure. I hope that the articles on my website can inspire you to stay open-minded about your own healthcare.

Identifying The Signs Of A Seizure In A Child

Health & Medical Blog

With seizures in children, there are often no symptoms because a symptom is something that is observed and reported by the patient. However, children and other seizure victims often do not remember the seizure. Instead, it will be up to adults who witnessed the seizure to record the signs that the child exhibited.

Ask Your Child About What He Or She Is Feeling

Talk to your child frequently about what he or she is feeling, especially if your child is behaving strangely. By talking about your child's feelings, you will be able to determine common symptoms and warning signs that may indicate that your child is about to have a seizure.

Look For Generalized Convulsions

The most obvious sign of a seizure is the generalized convulsions. Your child may have a difficult time breathing and may be rolling his or her eyes. It is also common that a child is sleepy or confused after experiencing a seizure. However, it may be more difficult to identify seizures in which there are no convulsions and your child simply stares and blinks.

Rely On Other Family Members To Recount Seizures

One of the challenges of recording the signs of a seizure is the speed at which the seizure can occur. Some parents do not even realize that their child is experiencing a seizure since it occurs so quickly. If multiple family members have witnessed your child's seizure, it may be a good idea for all of them to come into the doctor's office to offer descriptions of the experience. If you are able to capture the seizure on video, providing the video to your child's physician can be significantly helpful in forming an accurate diagnosis.

A seizure is a problem that can be experienced by anyone. There are certain issues that can trigger a seizure, including:

  • Fever
  • Head Trauma
  • A Lack Of Oxygen

When the cause of the seizure is treated, the patient will stop experiencing seizures. However, there are some seizures that are described as idiopathic. This means that the cause of the seizure is unknown and may be the result of neurons misfiring in the brain.

If you are not sure about why your child is suffering from seizures, it is recommended that you take your child to a neurological services and treatment center. A specialist will piece together the symptoms that your child has experienced and will determine what the most likely cause of your child's symptoms are and what can be done to treat your child's symptoms.
